10 YEARS. OBRIGADO.

10 YEARS. OBRIGADO.

Startup Lisboa celebrates its 10th anniversary today, and our birthday thoughts and wishes go to the community. The community that has made us grow since the very first minute and which translates into the entrepreneurs who bring innovation, the mentors who contribute with their knowledge and experience to help startups achieve success, the investors who help them reach further, the partners who open doors to new areas and industries and the team, which outlined the project and that every day strives to maintain its relevance.

"The community is the main responsible for Startup Lisboa's success. Our mission is to build a lively and dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem, and it is the protagonists [entrepreneurs, startups, partners, investors] who deserve to be congratulated. It is up to us to adapt our work to their needs, keep it relevant and, as long as startups and other players seek for us, it is a sign that we are innovating and doing a good job."

Miguel Fontes, Startup Lisboa's Executive Director

Thank you and Congratulations! Let's keep growing together.

10 YEARS. A TALE MADE FROM MANY STORIES...

In 2012, we took our first steps on the path of entrepreneurship and, since then, a lot has happened, but as "we never forget our first time", let's go on a trip down memory lane.

The first news about Startup Lisboa in printed format, which came out even before the doors of Rua da Prata opened, was written by Time Out.

Today, countless programmes are launched in partnership with several entities from the most diverse business areas. But it was back in 2015 that Startup Lisboa launched its first programme: TAP Creative Launch, which aimed to support innovative products and services for the aviation industry.

The city's efforts to boost entrepreneurship and innovation made themselves noticed, and Lisbon was named "Lisbon Entrepreneurial City 2015". To celebrate this, we brought together the community of entrepreneurs, accelerators, incubators and partners at Village Underground Lisboa, one of the incubator's first projects.

Codacy, one of the first startups incubated at Startup Lisboa, was the first Portuguese startup to win the Web Summit pitch competition in 2014, in Ireland.

What if your first job was your startup? In the first years of operation, we launched Startup Lisboa Momentum, a scholarship programme intended to be a financial aid for recent graduates and finalists to dedicate themselves 100% to their business ideas.

Startup Lisboa is the first incubator in Portugal to have a house to accommodate entrepreneurs. The Casa Startup Lisboa met the need of many foreign entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs from outside of Lisbon to find a place to live in their first days in the city.

Startup Lisboa is designing one of the most significant innovation hubs in Europe: the Hub Criativo do Beato will boost the city as an international hub for entrepreneurship and grow the eastern part of the city.

In 2021 we launched the HCB Living Lab. This living lab will enhance the development of new technologies and services to mitigate the impact of climate change, also promoting the sustainability of the entrepreneurial ecosystem that is growing in Hub Criativo do Beato.

The tales are endless, and we will continue to write history together.

... AND MANY PEOPLE.

Because stories are made of people, we will share some testimonies of the entrepreneurs who were part of ours throughout the year. We start with Nuno, Rita, Gonçalo, João and Luís...

... but we will be giving voice to every story, there will be many more to come!
